Are negative emotions are good for you?

Yes, but only for 1 second. 

Imagine you place your hand on a hot stove. Is the pain you'll feel in this instance good for you? Yes! Because it alerts you to take your hand OFF the stove as quickly as possible.

In a similar way, negative emotions are helpful only to alert you that something is wrong so that you can immediately start transitioning to a more positive response.
