Most people think...
MYTH: Charismatic people are born that way. (I wasn't!)
MYTH: Charisma is only for extroverts.
MYTH: It's too late for me to start speaking up/learn how to communicate charismatically.
|
The truth is, I used to believe these myths, too. Once an extremely shy, quiet girl, I used to be TERRIFIED of walking onto a stage by myself, let alone speaking up in a voice that was loud enough so that everyone could hear me. In fact, as a kid, I regularly made my mom call my friends to come over to play and once threw a fit to get out of attending a National Speakers Association kids' camp simply because I was scared of spending a week with a bunch of children I didn't know. Later on in life, when I finally FOUND my voice, I discovered that I had NO IDEA what I wanted to say or how to say it effectively. As an adult, I was a hard worker and stellar student with unique opportunities to shine, but I naturally blended into the background in professional situations or was viewed perpetually as an intern/assistant. I was afraid of asking for a raise or taking the lead on projects even when I wanted to. I passed up incredible leadership opportunities and watched less-qualified candidates get promotions ahead of me. But I knew I wanted more. After years of struggle, I learned how to find my voice and speak up when it mattered most. Today, I:
My professional experience in public relations and communication roles for nonprofit organizations, culture/tourism, international business and state government have taught me the power of having a clear, concise message and knowing how to deliver it in a charismatic way. And my background as a professional musician has shown me how to harness that power of presence in real time to become a more magnetic performer. Learning these skills has changed my life for the better, which is why I am so passionate about helping other creative professionals step outside their comfort zones, find their authentic voice, engage with their audience on a deeper level and lead more fulfilling lives as a result. I had to LEARN how to find my voice, how to speak up, deliver feedback, and do so with presence to engage with those listening. You can develop these skills, too! |

"Ashley made the process less painful than I imagined it would be..."
"What surprised me most about this program/coaching with Ashley was how comfortable I was in sharing my shortcomings and receiving coaching regarding the issues. I’m a private person and don’t share my issues with others easily. Ashley made the process less painful than I imagined it would be by creating an environment of acceptance and authenticity.” - Laura Jones, Coaching Program Participant

"The art of listening is a forgotten art these days but Ashley has this in spades!!!"
"The art of listening is a forgotten art these days but Ashley has this in spades!!! On reflection, the 3 goals we landed on were a little surprising in that they were not what I would consider to be subjects in the forefront of my mind, but they struck a chord with my core values. I really liked the 'little steps' aspect to the conversation, one small thing that's very achievable that would provide the impetus to take the next step(s), and I appreciated the space she provided to allow me to consider and think of responses but also gave me gentle encouragement/guidance!" - Mark Vine, Environmental Operations Manager
"Ashley has that trifecta combination...that will touch many people."
“Ashley has that trifecta combination of beautiful singing voice, great communication skills and uplifting personality that will touch many people, no matter what she chooses to do next..." - Linda Young, Workshop Participant
"She interacts well with both groups and individuals and gave an engaging and enlightening presentation that is great for all ages and types of people."
"Ashley generously gave us a musical program. This included a performance of three song renditions, ukulele playing, and a lesson on how to "unlock our inner musicians". Her renditions of "Love", "I Wanna Be Like You", and "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" were stunning and linked together her presentation about musicianship seamlessly. She interacts well with both groups and individuals and gave an engaging and enlightening presentation that is great for all ages and types of people. Her presentation style is warm, intelligent, and is a presentation I would watch many times." - Rachel Hugenberg, Houston, TX
