Most people think...
MYTH: Charismatic people are born that way. (I wasn't!) 
  • TRUTH: Bah humbug! Some people do pick up charismatic skills early in life, but with focused, regular practice, EVERYONE can authentically develop the 3 main charismatic behaviors (presence, power, and warmth).​

MYTH: Charisma is only for extroverts.
  • TRUTH: Introverts can be just as charismatic and influential as extroverts. They have a natural ability to listen, which means they are great at connecting individually with others, building rapport and making people feel important and empowered in their presence. They can be great storytellers and have a knack for getting to the heart of a matter without talking too much. We need BOTH introverted AND extroverted charismatic leaders in society!

MYTH: It's too late for me to start speaking up/learn how to communicate charismatically.
  • TRUTH: Everyone has a voice, but most people don't know how to use theirs to its full potential. By tapping into your unique story, presence and creativity, you can learn these skills, design, and create your dream life. A large part of accessing this side of your brain is making it a habit and cultivating it like you would any other skill. It's too never late to begin. ​

The truth is, I used to believe these myths, too.

​Once an extremely shy, quiet girl, I used to be TERRIFIED of walking onto a stage by myself, let alone speaking up in a voice that was loud enough so that everyone could hear me. In fact, as a kid, I regularly made my mom call my friends to come over to play and once threw a fit to get out of attending a National Speakers Association kids' camp simply because I was scared of spending a week with a bunch of children I didn't know.

Later on in life, when I finally FOUND my voice, I discovered that I had NO IDEA what I wanted to say or how to say it effectively. As an adult, I was a hard worker and stellar student with unique opportunities to shine, but I naturally blended into the background in professional situations or was viewed perpetually as an intern/assistant. I was afraid of asking for a raise or taking the lead on projects even when I wanted to. I passed up incredible leadership opportunities and watched less-qualified candidates get promotions ahead of me. But I knew I wanted more.

After years of struggle, I learned how to find my voice and speak up when it mattered most. Today, I:
  • SING, SPEAK and PERFORM both online and in person.
  • DELIVER virtual workshops to international audiences.
  • COMPETE in and win speech contests.
  • ENJOY NETWORKING with creative professionals and community leaders around the world.
  • SERVE in leadership roles for local organizations and international nonprofits.

My professional experience in public relations and communication roles for nonprofit organizations, culture/tourism, international business and state government have taught me the power of having a clear, concise message and knowing how to deliver it in a charismatic way. And my background as a professional musician has shown me how to harness that power of presence in real time to become a more magnetic performer. Learning these skills has changed my life for the better, which is why I am so passionate about helping other creative professionals step outside their comfort zones, find their authentic voice, engage with their audience on a deeper level and lead more fulfilling lives as a result.​

I had to LEARN how to find my voice, how to speak up, deliver feedback, and do so with presence to engage with those listening. You can develop these skills, too!
